on Long Island

22 lawns, patios, and gravel gardens where the house itself says a leashed dog is welcome — not a rumor from a pet-list site. 21 on the North Fork, plus Duck Walk’s Water Mill château on the South Fork.

Only the houses that say yes themselves

Pet-list websites get this wrong all the time, and the price of the mistake is a dog waiting in a hot car while everyone else tastes. So every venue here publishes a yes on its own site or FAQ, and the rooms that merely feel dog-friendly stay off the list until they say so. Nearly all of it is outdoors and leashed, and the fine print varies more than you would expect: Paumanok is weekdays only, Macari means the lawn rather than the covered deck, Lieb and Rose Hill are patio, RGNY is grass with service animals alone indoors, and Woodside is fine in the picnic areas but not the U-pick rows. Bring the kids too and most of these lawns appear on the family-friendly list as well.

Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard

A Sound Avenue farm that turns into a party on weekends: a historic house, a pizza truck, lawns and a gazebo, and yard games. Reservations are strongly recommended in two-hour windows between 12 and 5, with walk-ins if there is space.

Leashed dogs are welcome across the grounds, and the house runs its own dog events — the least grudging yes on this list.

No outside food or drink. Buses and limos need written permission and must arrive by 1 p.m. It gets loud on weekends.

Long Island Spirits

The first craft distillery on Long Island since the 1800s: walk-in flights and cocktails, a patio at ground level, and a second-story deck over the farm. Food trucks most weekends.

The official FAQ answers the dog question with “we love animals,” and the ground-level patio is where to take one.

21+ to drink. The Hidden Vault upstairs is reachable by stairs only. The posted hours are spring hours — confirm by season.

Twin Fork Beer Co

A twin-brother warehouse taproom on industrial Raynor Avenue: walk-in pints and flights, a gravel beer garden in the warm months, and a fireplace inside.

Pet-friendly, and the taproom has hosted dog events — though the indoor leash rule is not posted anywhere, so ask at the bar.

Food is snacks rather than a kitchen. Hours vary by day, so check the calendar. This is a beer garden, not a Sound Avenue farm.

Palmer Vineyards

The first vineyard off the expressway: walk in with fewer than six, take the $25 mystery flight of four, and eat wood-fired pizza from the truck Friday through Sunday in season.

Dogs are fine outdoors on a leash, which is where you want to sit here anyway.

Six or more must reserve, and buses come by appointment. Hours shift month to month. Same Massoud family as Paumanok, but the easier of the two dog rules.

Jamesport Farm Brewery

A 40-acre farm brewery: walk-up pints, first-come seating, a picnic beer garden, and a hop yard to wander. Food trucks daily, under new ownership since 2025.

The owners are explicit about dogs and kids, and a leashed dog has 40 acres to work with — the most space anywhere on this list.

Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. No outside food. Limos and buses need a prior reservation and must arrive before 2 p.m.

The former Martha Clara barn, with a pergola and a wide lawn: walk in with ten or fewer if seats exist, or pre-book the roughly $60 RG Tasting with food pairings. Eleven or more must book an experience.

Leashed dogs on the grass only — worth reading twice, because indoor tastings and booked experiences are service animals exclusively.

If you reserved anything indoors, leave the dog at home. No outside food. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday through January and February.

A family orchard cider room with no reservation to make: four flavors for $10 or all six on tap for $14, plus made-to-order doughnuts, pies, and a fire pit. Closes about 5:30.

Leashed dogs are welcome in the picnic areas, but not among the U-pick orchard rows.

Paumanok Vineyards

The Massoud family’s original 1983 estate, open daily 11 to 5 and to 6 Friday through Sunday. Walk in with seven or fewer; eight or more email res@paumanok.com, and weekends are best booked on Tock.

The one rule to plan the week around: dogs are welcome outdoors Monday through Friday, and not at all on Saturday or Sunday.

No outside food, and intoxicated arrivals are turned away. Same family as Palmer, which keeps the more relaxed policy of the two.

Terra Vite

The old Diliberto site reopened under a new name: reservations highly recommended, tables of one to five, flights $32 to $35, and a 90-minute turn. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Leashed dogs are welcome, though the site is small enough that a calm one works better than an excitable one.

Groups of six to 12 run 90 minutes with a $40 per person minimum. Limos and buses drop off between 11:00 and 12:30 only and park off-site. No outside food.

Walk-in and first-come, with a ship-themed bar, a covered deck, a picnic area, and alpacas living on the property.

Pets are welcome outright — just keep the leash short, because the alpacas are right there.

Outside food is fine in the picnic area, but no outside drinks or coolers. Groups of six or more with a hired driver must call. Thin website, and it closes for weather.

A small Laurel estate where walk-ins are welcome but reservations are wiser: $45 for four wines and charcuterie on the Tasting Deck, $98 in the Barrel Room, capped at 12 people.

Leashed dogs are welcome outdoors — the lawn rather than up on the decks.

The Tasting Deck and Upper Deck are 21+, and children are limited to the lawn. No outside food or drink. Weekend reservations genuinely matter here.

A family farm above the Sound, tasting strictly by reservation: a seasonal five-wine flight for $40, or $75 down in the barrel cellar.

Leashed dogs belong on the lawn among the vines — not indoors and not on the covered deck, which is where people get caught out.

Lawn tables cannot be booked, so the dog seat is first-come. Five-day cancellation window, and harvest traffic runs August through October. Not to be confused with Meadowlark in Cutchogue.

The old Shinn farmhouse under a new name: first-come daily 11 to 6, flights $20 to $34, eight people to a group, and a published no to buses and bachelorette parties.

Dogs are welcome on the patio and out among the vines on a leash, though not inside the farmhouse.

Wine-club members can reserve; everyone else waits, and peak days mean a queue. The popular bottles sell out. No outside food.

Lieb’s value label, run like somebody’s backyard: bar service, six wines for $20, rainbow picnic tables, bocce, and an Adirondack lawn from April to November.

Outdoors, leashed, and supervised — a lawn with games on it, which is about as easy as a dog afternoon gets.

Summer daily 12–7, off-season Thursday through Sunday. Bring a picnic and clean up after it; no outside alcohol. Limos and buses welcome. The fruit is multi-region.

Long Island’s founding vineyard, planted by the Hargraves in 1973: walk in with a small group, reserve above six, Monday to Saturday 11 to 5 and Sunday 12 to 4.

Outdoor only and leashed, at an estate that turns buses away on principle — the calm choice with a nervous dog.

Picnics are encouraged. Sunday hours are short. Deliberately anti-party: do not send a bachelor bus.

Dogs stay on the patio, leashed and at your table — the indoor flights are not the dog seat.

No buses, limos, or vans at all. The library room is 21+. No outside food or drink.

A three-generation Italian family farm where walk-ins are always fine: a pergola, picnic tables, and a pond with koi and turtles behind the tasting room.

The official FAQ says yes to dogs, and the pond-side benches are the obvious place to sit with one.

Sunday through Friday 11–5, Saturday to 6 in season. Picnics on the outdoor benches only, and no outside alcohol. Buses, limos, and sprinters must reserve.

The winery that built the modern North Fork: open daily 11 to 6, walk-in five-wine flights, and weekend campus tours from May to October for $35.

Leashed and supervised is the whole rule, and the grounds are big enough to find a quiet corner on a busy Saturday.

Weekends get crowded. Picnics in the designated outdoor areas only. A hired limo, bus, or van needs a prepaid slot. Quality is uneven across the sweet bottles.

The second-oldest winery on the North Fork, farming since 1978: five wines for roughly $25 to $35, Sunday through Thursday 11 to 6 and Friday and Saturday to 7.

The house says dogs welcome in the courtyard — an enclosed gravel square rather than an open lawn, which suits a dog that prefers walls.

Reservations preferred for one to six and required from seven to 16; buses and limos by appointment. No outside food, whatever older picnic listings say.

The Damianos family’s Southold patio: $18 for any four wines, a gazebo and a lawn to sit on, and walk-in service under six people.

The tasting-room page says pet friendly and leashed, and the lawn is where you would want to be regardless.

Six or more must reserve, and the reservation buys the tasting rather than a seat. Published hours conflict between pages. Light snacks of your own are allowed. This is not the Water Mill château.

America’s rosé-only estate: no reservations, first-come tables in a gravel garden under the trees, daily 12 to 6 in season, eight to a table.

Outdoors, leashed, and well behaved — and expect to be seated near other people’s dogs and children in the garden.

The garden runs April to late November and closes for winter. Shuttle vans, party buses, limos, and sprinters are prohibited. No outside food or party décor, and they will not split a party larger than eight.

Duck Walk’s original Water Mill château is the only room on this fork that publishes a yes. Channing Daughters and Wölffer, the Wine Stand included, both say no beyond ADA service animals.

Which Long Island wineries allow dogs?

Twenty-two open venues say yes on their own pages: Baiting Hollow, Long Island Spirits, Twin Fork, Palmer, Jamesport Farm Brewery, RGNY, Woodside, Paumanok on weekdays, Terra Vite, Jason’s, Ev&Em, Macari, Rose Hill, Bridge Lane, Borghese, Lieb, Pugliese, Pindar, Lenz, Duck Walk North, Croteaux, and Duck Walk South. Rooms that only look dog-friendly on third-party lists are not included.

Are dogs allowed indoors at Long Island wineries?

Almost never. Every venue here is outdoors and leashed, with a few worth reading closely: Macari means the lawn among the vines and not the covered deck, Lieb and Rose Hill are patio only, RGNY is grass only with service animals alone indoors, Lenz names its courtyard, and Woodside allows the picnic areas but not the U-pick rows. Twin Fork is the one room that has not published an indoor rule either way.

Can we bring a dog to a Long Island winery on Saturday?

Everywhere on this list except Paumanok, which allows dogs Monday through Friday and never on a weekend. Croteaux is the other date-dependent one: the garden runs April to late November and shuts for winter. Nothing else here publishes a weekend ban, though weekends are when Baiting Hollow, Pindar, and Bridge Lane get loud.

Which stop is best if the dog is the point?

Jamesport Farm Brewery, for the sheer space — 40 acres, a beer garden, and a hop yard. Bridge Lane if you want a lawn with bocce and cheap wine. Baiting Hollow, which runs its own dog events. Croteaux if you would rather sit in a shaded gravel garden than on open grass. Borghese is the quiet one, for a dog that does not like crowds.

Do we need a reservation if we are bringing a dog?

The dog seat is nearly always an outdoor table, and outdoor tables are usually first-come — Macari’s lawn, for instance, cannot be booked at all even though the tasting must be. Book the room, then expect to find your own spot outside. Terra Vite, Lieb, Ev&Em, and RGNY all recommend reserving; Bridge Lane, Pugliese, Pindar, Jason’s, and Woodside are walk-in.

Which Long Island wineries do not allow dogs?

Riverhead Ciderhouse, Jamesport Vineyards, Raphael, Kontokosta, Mattebella, Harbes, Sannino, Clovis Point, Sparkling Pointe, Channing Daughters, and Wölffer, including the Wine Stand, all publish a no. Service animals under the ADA are the standard exception. Do not rely on a pet-list website for any of these.

Is the North Fork or the South Fork better for a dog-friendly tasting?

The North Fork, which holds 21 of the 22. The whole run from Calverton to Southold is lawns and patios within a 25-minute drive. On the South Fork only Duck Walk’s Water Mill château publishes a yes — Channing Daughters and Wölffer are both a no.
